Surf With Bliss Maldives

Amazing beginner-friendly waves, a picture-perfect island setting, and five-star comfort all come together in the Maldives, making for a surfer's dream vacation. The Maldives is one of the most beautiful surf destinations on the planet, and it's perfect for both group trips with friends and family surf vacations.

Maldives is a chain of almost 1,200 coral islands scattered across 26 atolls in the central Indian Ocean, off the west coast of India, and is widely regarded as the quintessential tropical paradise. These completely undeveloped atolls, reachable from Male (the capital), feature picture-perfect white sand beaches studded with palm trees and five-star resorts, delivering the ultimate beachcomber lifestyle—with every luxury you can dream of, of course.

In the 1970s , Tony was the first surfer in the Maldives, and his efforts sparked the development of a booming industry as word spread about the incredible waves to be found there. Hundreds of surf resorts and charter boats now serve thousands of happy wave riders annually.

You can catch the best waves in the Maldives between April and October. Surfers hoping for huge waves should plan their trip during the months of June, July, and August.

Where to Fly When Traveling to the Maldives

When you arrive in the Maldives, you'll first fly to Velana International Airport, commonly known as Malé International Airport. Hulhule Island, just two kilometres from Malé, the Maldives' island capital, is home to the country's only airport.

Surfing Locations in the Northern Malé Atoll

The North Malé Atoll features a variety of lefts and rights and is home to some of the Maldives' most famous breaks. Thanks to the two factors working in tandem, surfers of all skill levels, from novices to veterans, will be able to enjoy the optimal conditions for riding the waves. The North Malé Atoll is home to some of the Maldives' top surf spots, with names like Lohis, Cokes, Chickens, Ninjas, Jails, Honkeys, and Sultans.

A south or southeast swell and a northeast wind are ideal for Lohis, a lengthy left-hander. Lohis is the Maldives' most reliable wave. Lohis, which breaks right off Lohifushi Island, is accessible to to guests of the Hudhuranfushi Resort. We recommend visiting Lohis between May and October.

Cokes is a right-hander named for its proximity to the island where the Coca-Cola facility is located. Only the most experienced surfers should attempt Cokes, as it features the area's most reliable large waves.

Chickens is a lefty game best played by experienced players. Chicken is tastiest in the summer, but it's delicious from May through

October. July and August are often the best months to surf Chickens if you're searching for consistency.

Ninjas is a great wave for surfers of all skill levels, including beginners; nevertheless, the wave's consistency varies. Longboarders love this sweeping right turn.

Only the most adventurous surfers used to risk riding Jails, also known as Jailbreak. Jails got its moniker since it sits directly across the street from a correctional facility. The entry to Jails has always been private property, making surfing there illegal until very recently. Take a ride on Jails if you want to go through some seriously long and rapid barrel portions.

One of the best waves in the Maldives can be found at Sultans. This right-hander is ideal for advanced surfers only and often produces waves between 4 and 6 feet in height, with the greatest conditions being when the waves are 8 feet or higher.

About a hundred yards along the same reef as Sultans is where you'll locate Honkeys. This long left-hander, known as "Honkeys," is best surfed at low tide.

Southern Atolls Surfing Trip

Larger swells can be found at the Southern Atolls, also called the Outer Atolls, which are only accessible by surf charter. The waves will be a few feet higher, and you'll have them to yourself, meaning less time spent waiting and more time spent surfing.

The Southern Atolls have swell practically every month of the year, making them the best surfing destination in the Maldives. At any time between February and October, you can expect to find excellent waves in the Southern Atolls.
